Zamalek Gardens | حدائق الزمالك
Around 1860, Khedive Ismail transformed the entirety of the island of Zamalek into an expansive botanical garden called Jardin des Plantes, bringing in species from around the world to fill the nurseries and land. In addition these gardens were adorned with unique constructions such as the historic greenhouses in el Zohreya Garden, the Gabalya (rock grotto) in the Aquarium (Fish) Garden, and the superb marble carvings and Andalusian architecture in the Andalus Garden. It was a showcase comparable to the best gardens in cities such as Paris, earning Egypt accolades and much attention. These gardens survived for decades, until now. Our gardens are under threat. Our history will be bulldozed.
في ستينات القرن التاسع عشر 19 (حوالي عام 1860) قام الخديوي إسماعيل بتحويل جزيرة الزمالك إلى حديقة نباتات كبيرة منقسمة إلى مشاتل تضم نباتات وأشجار نادرة من كل أنحاء العالم. وتم إضافة إنشاءات فريدة من نوعها منها صوب في حديقة الزهرية، وجبلاية بحديقة الأسماك الحالية ورخام وخزف وعناصر من العمارة الأندلسية بحديقة الأندلس. ولذلك نالت هذه الحدائق مكانة متميزة بين حدائق العالم حتى يومنا هذا حيث أصبحت مهددة من مشاريع التطوير والإزالة.

Legal Basis for Our Campaign | المرجعية القانونية لحملتنا
Zamalek Island is designated a protected area of special value under Decision No. 14/22/06/2 by the Supreme Council for Planning and Urban Development, therefore: Clubs and public gardens are classified as environmental protection zones, and must abide by built construction limits as stipulated by law, whereby no buildings can occupy more than a maximum of 5% of land area for clubs or a maximum of 2% of land area for public gardens. No club buildings may have openings facing surrounding streets.
طبقاً لحدود وأسس الحفاظ على جزيرة الزمالك ذات القيمة المتميزة المعتمدة من المجلس الأعلي للتخطيط والتنمية العمرانية بقرار رقم 14 / 22 / 06 / 2 الأندية والحدائق العامة ، هي مناطق حماية بيئية يتحتم حمايتها عن طريق تقليل مسطحات إشغال المباني بحيث يكون البناء على مساحة لا تتجاوز خمسة بالمئة (5%) للأندية واثنان بالمئة (2%) للحدائق العامة من مسطح الأرض. ولا يصرح بفتح أي مبني من مباني النادي علي الشوارع المحيطة.
